Getting Your Fitness Right

If you’re like most people, then you’re probably very much wanting to get back into shape so you can show off that hot physique or figure that’s just hiding underneath all that lovely extraness. It trips me out how I hear people say they’re going to do this, and they’re going to do that, and they’ve made this resolution, and signed up for this gym, only to find out that they aren’t doing diddly squat.

Honestly, I don’t think it has much to do with motivation, because a lot of people truly do want to get their shit together. I think the problem comes from people putting too much pressure on themselves to get fit and look a certain way, to the point that it becomes overwhelming. When it gets to this point, that mental stress in and of itself is enough to make people give up. And if it’s not mental stress, it’s inexperience. Some people try to start out so hardcore into a grueling workout regime, only to end up eventually quitting because they’ve either hurt themselves, or they’ve burned themselves out.

This is part of the reason why I want to become a personal trainer, because if it were me, I would advise people to start off at a pace that’s comfortable, and then gradually work your way up in difficulty. Doing it this way will allow you the chance to get used to an active lifestyle in a gradual and progressive way. One trick I always think of is to find something that you actually enjoy doing that gets you moving, and do it consistently. It can be anything, from dancing, tennis, volleyball, basketball, anything that can make you sweat, and smile, at the same time. Because after all, fitness is supposed to be fun, not a chore.
